Frequently Asked Questions

About our process and what to expect

Q: WHY DO I NEED TO PAY A RETAINER FEE UPFRONT?

A: Our biggest commodity is time—we need to be able to set aside the time for your project, and as they say “time is money” the retainer fee also reserves your rental boards if you are renting with us.

Q: HOW DO I GET MY COMPLETED PROJECTS?

A: Orders are available for pickup the Thursday before your event (if taking place on Saturday or Sunday) and must be picked up. The address will be given upon order placement.

If I am not home, your order will be on the front porch. PLEASE BE SURE TO ONLY TAKE YOUR ORDER. I will label orders as best as possible, but please know what items you are picking up.

If you cannot pick up, I am happy to deliver for our standard delivery fee. I deliver for free for up to 15 miles, and every driven mile to your location is $1.50 per mile.

If you are not local, basic shipping costs will apply. Please indicate your preferred method of receiving your goods when ordering.

Q: HOW LONG IS THE RENTAL PERIOD?

A: Typically rentals are allowed to be returned by the following Tuesday, in the height of wedding season (May-August) we ask that you return them as soon as possible to allow us to get them ready for their next gig.

Q: WHEN AND HOW DO I PAY MY BALANCE?

A: For most projects, they are custom, and I do require custom orders be paid in full prior to ordering any necessary materials and beginning production. Any rentals, the balance must be paid in full prior to pickup. Invoices will be sent via email and all acceptable forms of payment are listed on your invoice.

Q: CAN I RENT PIECES IF I LIVE OUTSIDE OF ILLINOIS?

A: Rentals are not allowed outside the state, except for southern Wisconsin. If you have needs for lettered goods and are outside the aforementioned areas, it will be considered a custom order.

Q: HOW DO I GET AN ESTIMATE FOR SIGN ART?

A: When you contact us with your project, there are a few main elements we need to know from you to create an accurate estimate: whether you are renting a board from us or providing your own; the dimensions of the board; the information you need included in the design, and some examples of the style you are looking for (such as modern, simple, rustic, elegant, calligraphy, etc.). Pinterest is a great resource for finding inspiration for your custom sign art.

Q: HOW LONG DOES A CUSTOM INVITATION JOB USUALLY TAKE?

A: Custom invitations consisting of just printed paper goods with no specialty add ons or materials typically only take 4 weeks to produce. Obviously this depends on how quickly you and I communicate as well. During the busy season (May – August) Invitations can take up to 8 weeks to produce so please plan accordingly. Specialty materials such as acrylic, leather, wood, and metallic foil, UV printing, or letterpress may add an additional two weeks to production time.

Q: HOW LONG DOES ENVELOPE CALLIGRAPHY TAKE?

A: Because I only have one set of hands, having at least 6 weeks least time on envelope addressing allows me to complete them at a decent pace while also giving my hands and wrists plenty of time to rest in between sets of envelopes. Please reach out early if you think you are wanting hand addressed envelopes.
